Stimulus in your computer
I do these mind games with MS Paint. This one is called “Hairspray.” I give myself 120 seconds to work fast with a mouse and do an interpretation of whatever I see, hear or smell at the moment. The idea, in MY head, is just to do fast composition to get the writing juices flowing.
Everyone should have little tricks to play on their minds. This is not meant to be high art folks…this is using something you all have in Windows. I smelled hairspray one morning as I was getting ready to write and BOOM! The one above it is called “Ounce” and I did it back in January in under two minutes after seeng something about gold on CNN.
It’s not all good stuff, but it fires up the senses in the morning. Some people drink coffee…I fire up the computer and use MSPaint.
I’m telling you, though, if it weren’t so simple I would feel like a monkey when I do it.
